At some point or another, we're all looking to find that one special gift. It could be for our grandmother, daughter, or mother. In other words, a really significant woman or girl in our life.
Jewelry in some form or another, whether it be a pair of earrings or a bracelet, usually signifies how important the receiver of the gift is. If you're wracking your brain on what to get for that exceptional person in your life, you'll definitely want to consider a wish pearl necklace.
What are wish pearls, you ask? ![]()

A wish pearl, in my opinion, is one of the coolest gifts going. Not only cool, but thoughtful. It's also really unique, and not something that's over-gifted. A pearl wish necklace is a pearl, embedded in a mollusk awaiting your discovery inside of what looks like a small tunafish can.
Yes, you heard me right. Your beautiful wish pearl necklace gift set comes with a chain, a pendant which opens up to deposit the pearl into, and a can with a pearl inside.
Once you've given the gift, they will oooh and ahhh. What could this possibly be?
When you pop the top of the easy to open can, there is a mollusk submerged in a solution (the liquid is meant to help preserve the mollusk, so it's not smelly or gross). The mollusk is then removed and easily pried open, revealing a lovely pearl in which to place in the pendant and wear to your heart's content.
But where does the "make a wish" aspect come into play?
Legend has it, that before you open up the mollusk to reveal your pearl, you should make a wish upon it. Maybe one day it will come true for you. This definitely adds to the romanticism and uniqueness of the gift.
It usually takes about 3-5 years for the pearl to mature and grow in the mollusk. They tend to be approximately 6 1/2 - 7 1/2 mm in size. That's a decent sized pearl. They also come in a vast array of colors. When you open yours, you just might find one in white, lavender, cream, peach, or gold.
My daughter and I, when visiting Epcot in Florida last year, went into the Japan store and were able to each select a mollusk from their tank. Same concept, just different delivery. We each got lovely pearls. Her's was placed in a pendant, while I chose to have mine set into a ring. Every time we wear these pieces, we have fond memories of the special time we spent together there.
A make a wish pearl necklace, in my opinion, should be at the top of your gift list. It's an affordable and a one-of-a-kind gift that she will treasure always!
Have you ever given a wish pearl necklace as a gift, or received one yourself?
